Keyword Density Formula_7 Places to Put Your Keyword Phrase

Amidst the flurry of updates and reports of the many algorithm changes that arrive into my inbox each week, I try to remember to take a breath and remain calm enough to remind myself that – at the core- keywords still remain the key on-page SEO elements. ?Keywords are the pieces of the SEO equation that inform the search engines to know what the webpage is about.

Search engines need to know the keywords because users enter these phrases?into a search engine’s search field, and the search engines then present a list of website options that best respond to the users’ search queries.

Search engines use these keywords to determine the context of the web page. Then combining the various calculations of its algorithm, the search engine determines the placement of the website page within users search engine results pages.

 

So, how do I use keywords for SEO?

While I have not stumbled upon the secret sauce – that magic number for keyword density, I have been able to successfully test and confirm the following seven (7) on-page locations to be very effective in helping my clients’ websites to appear prominently within the search engine results page (SERP).

 

Recommended Keyword Density Formula:
7 Places Where I Put Keywords For SEO

  1. The page URL.
    This digital address of the page is key. When the search engines crawl the XML sitemap of a site, the text within the URL is the first element analyzed. As brands?include the keywords and phrases into the permalink of the webpages’s URL, they help the search engines immediately get an idea of the content contained within the page.

Example:?? www.YourDomain.com/keyword-placed-here

 

  1. Page Title (title tag)
    I have found this to be the most influential placement for my targeted keywords and phrases.One of my clients had recently achieved great positioning when their website moved from page 5 to page 2 within the SERP in just two weeks of the website’s update. Then,?a?miscommunication between the website team members cause the title tag to be adjusted. This change caused the website to drop to page 7…in two days!TWO DAYS!

    Immediately, the team reset the on-page title tag. ?Unfortunately, the update took another month before the website finally returned to their page 2 position. ?So yes, the page’s title tag is quite important in keyword/phrase placement.

I typically work to keep the character length between 50 – 60 characters.

 

  1. Meta description
    While the page’s description does not directly impact the search engines positioning of your site within the search engine results page, this meta description is key in communicating to users from the SERP.This area succinctly details the content of the page, and this description helps the users make the decision whether to click the link. ?Then once on site, the user will immediately know whether the description accurately definted the page’s content. If not, the user will likely will negatively impact a search engines rank of your website.

I typically work to keep the character length of the description between 50-149 characters.

 

  1. Headline (header tags: <h1/>, <h2/>, …<h6/>)
    Within the online structure of you webpage, the header tags help users preview the organized outline of the webpage’s content. Similarly, the headers (header tags) communicate an organized flow of content to the search engines crawling the site.These tags have been seen to remain pretty influential in terms of on-site SEO.

 

  1. Body Content/Post (verbatim & semantic/)
    This main part of your webpage provides you the opportunity to integrate various forms of your targeted keywords and phrases as you present the helpful insights, the verified research, or significant thought leadership of your brand. While I am not a proponent of keyword stuffing, I do believe that there is further opportunity to include various forms of your keywords in on-page communications.
  1. Image Alt Tags
    For any images contained within this page, please do consider the integration of the keyword/phrases into the image’s position, such as:

* save original image file using keyword or keyword variation
* naturally integrate the keyword phrase into the image title and image alt-tag

  1. Anchor Text Links
    Providing outgoing links to authority websites is good way to build your online authority as one show shares valuable resource and content. Keywords within the anchor-text links does well to accurately communicate the off-site content for which you are directing your readers.An example could include:

So as you can see, my goal throughout the keyword placement is to provide the best, informative user experience using targeted keywords and phrases naturally and authentically without appearing forced. The competition can be fierce. Your ability to exercise good keyword research and keyword placement will be key to your success.

How to Increase Your Blog Traffic |  Content Marketing

The topic of content marketing continues to grow in popularity; and for good reason, you will discover the content that you provide on your blog will be the key to your blogging success.  Your website and blog must deliver valuable content for your readers.  Content marketing can be viewed as the water that leads readers to your blog to quench their thirsts.

Content marketing is a marketing technique of creating and distributing valuable, relevant and consistent content to reach and attract your clearly defined audience.

A few content marketing ideas worth considering to increase your blog traffic:

  • Ask your current readers to suggest topics that they would like you to add to your blog:
    • add surveys to capture their anonymous data
    • post your question as a blog post to get their thoughts in the comment section
    • add the question to your blog’s social media profiles to solicit your audience’s thoughts
  • Repurpose popular content.  Create a new blog post that features the top 5-10 read articles and simply communicate that out to your audience (tweet, Facebook, email), such as:

Our Top 5 Article Read This Year [insert hashtag & shortened hyperlink]

  • Compile 5-10 quotes from your previously published content into provocative tweets that includes: 120 characters, popular hashtag, and shortened URL that can direct new readers to your blog article.  Be sure to include any “.@mention” to identify the quote source in order for him and his audience to see the tweet.  Additionally, you may want to:
    • Create a blog post to feature these provocative tweets and add the Tweet This functionality in order for readers to easily click to tweet directly from your blogpost.
    • Add them to your social media content calendar in order to begin sharing them during your designated time period
  • Write a selection of posts that feature key industry statistics or significant research that your readers would find interesting enough to share on their social media profiles.
  • Provide a non-argumentative commentary regarding a hot topic in your genre.  Is there a current event or controversy that impacting your readers that you can share some insight or perspective?
  • Engage your readers:
    • Invite your readers to submit a guest post for your blog on a specific topic/series.
    • Ask your readers to submit videos or images based on a key question or topic.  Select the best ones and create a blog post or series of posts around your users generated content.
  • Create a “Top 10” resource list specific to your writing niche and share the lists with your readers, who will likely share with their social media audiences.  i.e.

Top 10 Books to read this year
Top 10 Companies…
Top 10 Online Tools….
Top 10 Influencers…

  • Consider product & resource review opportunities.  Looking for a great value-add to provide your readers?  You should consider reviewing products and resources related to your core topic(s).  Your audience will find this informational content & your recommendations very helpful.
    • Your marketing opportunities within this area can include:
      • Connecting with book publishers.   A number of book publishers already have established blogger communities to review their new releases.
        • Do your research to find out which publishers you would like to be connected
        • Go ahead and selected 2-3 books/products to review and review them
        • Then – forward website links of those reviews to the publishers marketing teams along with your interest in being added to any new review opportunities that may become available.  These review opportunities provide you great content for your site while also positioning you as a leader within your niche market.  As you begin to review products, you will likely be contacted by other publishers and offered additional review opportunities for their products.
      • Searching for other blogger who have reviewed similar products.
        • Enter:  http://www.google.com/blogsearch
        • Enter the search terms followed by the 2 words:   book review (or product review, whichever is most applicable)
        • For example:   “best task management” product review.  This will provide you a glimpse of similar blogs like yours and the examples of products that they have reviewed on their websites.

Though there are so many more content marketing opportunities to grow your readers naturally and authentically, I do trust these initial ideas are helpful to at least get your started.

 

Blogging can become whatever you would like it to become for you and your family.  I personally know of some bloggers who have created a substantial revenue stream from their blog.  They are able to write and post content full-time.  Other bloggers I personally know simply choose to work part-time on their blog.  Then there are others like me, who simply blog as a hobby and repository of  thoughts, ideas, and notes on pertinent topics of interest.

We have heard the saying “it’s not what you know, it’s who you know”.  As the key content provider for your blog, you will have a greater opportunity in getting more blog traffic when you incorporate both.  In addition to your responsibility to provide great value in writing about what you know, you should actively explore the building of new relationships that can be key to your achieving your designated goals.

How to Get More Blog Traffic | Build Relationships

1.  Invite Authors to Become Guest Contributors

Do you personally know any other blog authors, who write about similar topics?  Please consider connecting with these writers and invite them to become guest contributors to you blog.  You could easily schedule a topical series and invite them to consider providing an article or two within the topic.  Guest posts provide you added value in their supplying original content to be published on your blog; while at the same time, the friendly gesture provides the authors a platform to share their knowledge and reach, too. For you, you gain access their expertise and online influence when they share the guest post with their audiences.  And who knows, your associates may be willing reciprocate the offer and and extend an invitation to contribute content to their websites as well.

2.  Establish Link Building Strategies

Perform your due diligence and identify a few key websites that will provide additional value to your readers and figure how to naturally link to these higher authoritative websites from a few of your appropriate articles. You should also consider contacting the website owners and let them know that you have found the information on their websites valuable and that you would like to direct your readers to a specific area that includes the specific information that you find valuable.  This exercise will add you to the website owners’  radars with hopes they will return the favor with an genuine, authoritative link back to a specific area on your blog from their resource section. Search engines add more value and rank to websites that establish authentic and authoritative link building strategies.

3.  Ways to Increase Blog Traffic with Twitter

Twitter offers a number of relationship opportunities to increase your exposure in order for new readers to easily discover your blog.

  1. Keywords & phrases.  Review Twitter search and determine how others are using your targeted keywords and phrases.  If you find a strong relation in the context of your keywords and phrases being used by others, begin to create and schedule your tweets using those same keywords and phrases.  This will help Twitter users more easily find your twitter feed that includes a shortened url of your blog.  Please make sure the keywords that you use are keywords/phrases that accurately describe the content from the article you are featuring or general keywords that best describe your overall topic(s) of your website or blog.
  2. Build Twitter Relationships.  Identify the top 10-15 bloggers/tweeps who post relatable content to your topics and follow them.  They will likely follow you back.  From here, you can:
    • monitor their tweets & blog posts in order to:

    • make plans to follow any guest contributor that you feature on your blog
    • identify the top conferences and events that are related to your topic and begin to follow the Twitter feeds.  You will likely find some very natural ways to comment and add your own valuable informational to the followers of these official conference hashtags.
    • [for a limited time] invite your guest contributors to update their personal email signatures as well as their social media profiles include a link to their article on your blog.

Making friends in the blog space can go a long way to the number of your readers growing.  Take your time and work to naturally develop the relationships that must remain mutually beneficial to everyone.
